Description

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time

EXEMPT/NONEXEMPT: Hourly Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Shift Leader assists in the overall operations of the Sanctuary Facility. The Shift Leader supervises a team of Resident Aides/Intake Coordinators and ensures compliance with all state and city regulations and agency policies and procedures. The Shift Leader supports and assists the Resident Aide/Intake Coordinator in aiding with clients' basic needs and the overall well-being of clients.

This is a 24-hour program. Shift Leaders are classified as essential workers, and as such accept responsibility for the completion of their critical services to clients, on site, even during times of emergency. These include, but are not limited to, emergencies caused by weather, nationwide pandemics, civil unrest, and domestic threat.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
•Supervises Resident Aide/Intake Coordinators, ensuring completion of assignments, including documentation and arranging for coverage during staff absence. Shift Leader will also be involved with developing performance improvement plans, staff evaluations and corrective actions, if necessary.
•Serves as lead staff for each assigned shift and helps to develop the schedule and staffing needs for that day. "Hands off" program to incoming Shift Leader by communicating any significant incidents or upcoming anticipated needs.
•Supports the Resident Aide/Intake Coordinator by overseeing the intake and assessment process for any economic, social, vocational and/or mental or medical health barriers, and other appropriate services.
•Assists in training and preparations related to child safety procedures and requirements.
•Overviews expectations for clients' code of conduct during their stay at the Sanctuary facility and ensures that clients adhere to the Sanctuary policies and procedures.
•Provide guidance and direct support to the Resident Aide/Intake Coordinator as well as to clients, both individually and in groups.
•Ensures compliance with Department of Homeless Services, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Department of Education, and Office of Children and Family Services regulations, as well as Lutheran Social Services of New York policies and procedures.
•Responds immediately to all incidents and emergencies. Notifies appropriate parties and take necessary action.
•Co-facilitates staff meetings and trainings.
•Communicates any issues, concerns or emerging trends pertaining to assigned shift to the Director of Social Services.
•Attends meetings, trainings, and conferences, as required.
•Assists with food handling and delivery services.
•Documents intake assessments and other service contacts in client record, according to funder requirements.
•Schedules meetings and has ongoing communication with members of the social service team.
•Assists with light housekeeping, receiving deliveries, stocking supplies, maintaining inventory records, dispensing toiletries, distributing mail and other general tasks related to clients' basic needs.
•Assists the Resident Aid/Intake Coordinator with client activities as well as client transports.
•Maintains telephone coverage by answering phone calls in a timely manner and providing accurate information to callers.
•Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Sanctuary or Director of Social Services.
•Represents Lutheran Social Service of New York's mission, values, ethics, and upholds agency Code of Conduct at all times.
•Adheres to confidentiality protocols outlined by the agency.

SUPERVISES:
•Resident Aides/Intake Coordinators.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
•Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.

CERTIFICATION:
•Obtain certification for the Food Handler's License from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
•Obtain and maintain the NYS Mandated Reporter certification.
•Adhere to all city funder training requirements.

EXPERIENCE:
•Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role in human services, preferred.
•Working experience with individuals and knowledge of issues related to immigration, asylum seekers, homelessness, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, entitlements, and domestic violence.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•Good spoken and written expression.
•Strong leadership/team building/coaching skills.
•Good time management skills, able to handle multiple tasks and assignments at once as well as adhere to the punctuality of a set schedule.
•Able to establish therapeutic relationships with clients and positive working relationships within LSSNY and with external agencies.
•Sensitive to intersectionality, different cultures, housing equality and a demonstrated ability to work within a social/racial justice framework.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
•Knowledge of CARES system a plus.
•Bilingual English/Spanish required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
•Crisis intervention skills.
•Familiarity with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
•Willing to participate in continuing education.
