Job Description
Due to upcoming retirements MPU is looking for new crew members!
The Fireman/Boiler Operator performs various duties assisting the Power Plant Operations Shift Foreman in the proper maintenance and operation of the CFB boilers and related Power Plant equipment including their auxiliary machinery.
Operates and observes all manner of assigned equipment to maintain safe and efficient operation. Work is performed under the supervision of the Power Plant Operations & Production Supervisor and as directed by the Power Plant Operations Shift Foreman.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Works closely with Operations Shift Foreman and Assistant Operator as part of a 3-person crew.
Operates all aspects and phases (startup, normal operations and shutdown) of Circulating Fluidized Bed power boilers in the most efficient manner to produce high pressure, low pressure and auxiliary steam to meet electric loads, sales steam loads, and follows directives from MISO for boiler/turbine loading.
Recognizes off normal conditions and takes appropriate corrective action to protect personnel and equipment.
Observes plant safety rules, performs assigned tasks in a safe manner and is alert for unsafe acts and conditions.
This role is on a rotating operating shift (swing shift). The schedule is set at the end of the year for the entire upcoming year.
Sample of Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High school degree or equivalent is required, 2-year college degree preferred. 2 years of power plant experience is preferred.
Knowledge of hazards and necessary safety precautions needed to properly operate and maintain boilers and the pressure systems in the boiler plant is required.
Ability to read and operate gages, meters, computers, bailey control system and logging system accurately along with knowledge to conduct accurate analysis of readings, logs and distributed control system in order to determine boiler and machinery and equipment operation and adjustments.
Basic to advanced computer usage skills
Starting Pay Rate: $41.10/hour
