Ohio Petition Circulator/Canvasser
One Fair Wage is National 501c3 Non-Profit Organization fighting to raise wages, improve working conditions in the service sector, and end all subminimum wages in the United States. With the Great Resignation, millions of workers are refusing to work for subminimum wages, employers are raising wages to recruit staff, and the political landscape to advance policy to raise wages has changed dramatically. Given the historic moment, One Fair Wage has launched an ambitious campaign to advance bills and ballot measures in 25 states nationwide to raise wages and end subminimum wages in the US - and through the process, engage millions of unlikely, low-wage worker voters politically. One Fair Wage is thus advancing policy, voter engagement, employer engagement, and culture shift activities to ultimately lift millions of tipped workers out of poverty nationwide and engage them in the political process that governs their lives.
The Opportunity:
One Fair Wage is hiring entry-level and experienced field staff to perform a variety of public-facing functions, including initiative petition circulation, voter registration, and other forms of direct voter contact in support of our ongoing campaign to raise the Ohio minimum wage to $15 an hour and end subminimum wages for tipped workers, workers with disabilities, and youth.
Ohio Petition Circulators will report directly to the Regional Organizing Directors.
Ideal candidates for these roles will be passionate, outgoing, and self-directed, with strong communication skills informed by a combination of professional experiences in the food service, hospitality, and/or health care industries. Candidates will have impeccable time management skills and a passion for advocating for restorative economic justice with members of the public.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Circulate Initiative Petitions and Voter Registration forms throughout Ohio
Hit Daily Benchmarks
Engage with a combination of community members, leaders, and affected workers to recruit additional paid and volunteer capacity for our organizing department
Identify and attend high-volume events
Learn and adapt to Ohio’s political climate, developing messaging in real time with supervisory staff to effectively advocate for One Fair Wage’s vision of restorative economic justice
Qualifications:
Comfortability with public speaking, primarily in one-on-one and small-group environments
Reliable transportation, or a willingness to use public transit
Prior experience as a service industry, low-wage, or tipped worker is preferred, but not required
A willingness to observe One Fair Wage’s professional standards
Petition circulators may elect to work in either a part-time or full time capacity, up to forty hours per week. This is an at-will, non-exempt, temporary position through December 2023 with a possibly to extend depending on the work needed compensated at a rate of $25/hour, with eligibility for performance-indexed bonuses.

Field Training Coordinators will apply their prior knowledge and skills from a combination of activism, community organizing, and/or political campaigning to facilitate the development of entry-level field staff. Prior experience in the food service, hospitality, and/or health care industries is preferred but not required.
Field Training Coordinators/Team Leads will report directly to the Regional Organizing Directors.

Candidates will have impeccable time management skills and a passion for advocating for restorative economic justice with members of the public, and a desire to advance One Fair Wage’s mission through the development of entry-level staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Circulate Initiative Petitions and Voter Registration forms throughout Ohio
Manage a small team
Taking your team to the assigned locations for the day
Meeting Daily Goals
Helping launch and check in your team
Debriefing with the Regional Organizing Director
Engage with a combination of community members, leaders, and affected workers to recruit additional paid and volunteer capacity for our organizing department
Identify and attend high-volume events
Learn and adapt to Ohio’s political climate, developing messaging in real time with supervisory staff to effectively advocate for One Fair Wage’s vision of restorative economic justice
Facilitate onboarding and training of entry-level field staff
Qualifications:
Strong facility with basic office technologies and softwares (i.e. Google Office Suite, high-volume, printers and scanners, Zoom, Slack, etc.)
Prior experience with campaign-specific softwares (i.e. EveryAction/Votebuilder, Mobilize, MiniVAN, Hustle, Reach, Scale To Win, etc.) is preferred, but not required
A sense of political urgency and passion for engaging with members of the public to profess One Fair Wage’s vision of restorative economic justice
Comfortability with public speaking, primarily in one-on-one and small-group environments
A strong desire to see concrete, political change
A deep connection to your community
Reliable transportation, or a willingness to use public transit
Fluency in language in addition to English is preferred, but not required
Prior experience as a service industry, low-wage, or tipped worker is preferred, but not required

The role of Field Training Coordinator is geographically specific, limited to the greater Cleveland, Akron, Cincinnati, Columbus, Youngstown, Athens, Kent, and Dayton areas. This is a full time position. This is an at-will, non-exempt, temporary position through December 2023 with a possibly to extend depending on the work needed compensated at a rate of $26/hour, with eligibility for substantial performance-indexed bonuses.
