Waukesha County's Department of Parks and Land Use is looking for the ideal candidate to lead our maintenance team at beautiful and challenging Naga-Waukee Golf Course as the Golf Course Superintendent . The Golf Course Superintendent provides high level direction for the development and maintenance of the entire 200-acre golf course property, and this position is tasked with preserving the memorable aesthetic at one of the busiest 18-hole golf courses in Wisconsin. Example of Duties Under general supervision to direct and perform work in the development and maintenance of a golf course, and to perform other duties as required. Plans, organizes, directs, and performs maintenance work at an assigned golf course. Prepares detailed work programs and assigns personnel and equipment to work projects. Checks work in progress and completed work. Directs golf course maintenance personnel in the operation of all golf course equipment Orients, trains and instructs employees in proper golf course maintenance activities and safety practices and procedures. Instructs employees in the safe handling and application of chemicals and monitors for proper usage. Instructs employees in and assures preventive maintenance of equipment, facilities, and grounds. Diagnoses and prescribes proper treatment for turf, tree, and shrub diseases. Inspects the facilities and projects to determine if golf course maintenance work is being done properly. Maintains an inventory and requisitions materials, supplies, tools, and equipment. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the staff and the public. Provides information to the general public. Keeps records and makes reports. Performs other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Essential Knowledge and Abilities Considerable knowledge of current methods of development, management and care of golf courses and related areas. Considerable knowledge of the practices, procedures, tools, materials, and equipment used in golf course maintenance work. Considerable knowledge of the operation and care of maintenance equipment and tools. Working knowledge of fertilizers and turf, tree, and shrub diseases. Ability to maintain and develop golf course properties and their facilities. Ability to plan, organize, direct and perform golf course maintenance work. Ability to train employees in duties, in chemical handling and in safety practices and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and the public. Ability to effectively interact with sensitivity with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, and persons of all ages and lifestyles. Ability to keep records and make reports. You must meet these minimum Training and Experience requirements: High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years work experience in the maintenance of a golf course or directly related work. Recognized post high school training with specialization in park or golf course management, landscape architecture or a directly related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required experience. Preference given to those who are a certified golf course superintendent with certification through the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
