Job Description

TITLE :            Elementary Teacher - Leave Position
Approximately 6 weeks beginning in Late October 2024

QUALIFICATIONS:

CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as a full time certificated position and is subject to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Board of School Trustees and the bargained agreement.  Pay is by contract based on the current teacher salary schedule.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To promote and advance the district mission: “Engaged to Learn, Equipped to Achieve, Empowered to Succeed.”  To promote high student achievement.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the bargained agreement, associated memoranda, and applicable state law.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  3. Requires students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  4. Understands, upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, Board Policy, and federal, state and local law.
  5. Works with prior grade teachers to identify specific learning styles of each assigned student and identifies appropriate instructional strategies to meet those learning styles.
  6. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of age-appropriate student developmental and psychological needs.
  7. Demonstrates knowledge of the cognitive and affective needs of students of poverty, diversity, and special need.
  8. Develops challenging, age-appropriate, and engaging instruction that encourages higher order thinking.
  9. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation including linking classroom objectives to Indiana Academic Standards.  Uses end-of-year and quarterly/semester assessments to identify students with performance gaps.
  10. Uses quality tools to engage students in setting classroom goals for academic performance and standards of behavior. 
  11. Utilizes data to inform and impact student achievement and instructional strategies.
  12. Creates, displays and maintains classroom goals and data charts, and requires the use of student data folders to encourage student responsibility for individual performance data tracking. 
  13. Employs approriate research-based best-practice and district standard practice techniques consistent with the needs of individual students or student groups.
  14. Utilizes a variety of formative (short-cycle) and summative student performance assessment strategies to systematically monitor student progress.  Provides immediate performance feedback to students.
  15. Collaborates with other members of the staff in reviewing and analyzing performance data and planning instructional goals and strategies to meet the learning needs of all students.
  16. Implements instruction based on the district scope and sequence guidelines, curriculum maps, and district assessments. 
  17. Demonstrates competence in the application of instructional technology in the areas of active learning, differentiated instruction, mastery learning, and in designing meaningful and student learning activities.
  18. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and the behavioral progress of assigned students. 
  19. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  20. Works cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty and staff including mentors and teacher-coaches.
  21. Assists other teachers in learning best practice through mentoring, coaching, modeling, and teamwork.
  22. Attends and participates in faculty, grade level, department, and other school district meetings.
  23. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct manual and/or electronic records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  24. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  25. Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  26. Accepts and shares team/committee leadership responsibilities and supports team recommendations  and decisions.
  27. Adheres to the standards, dispositions, knowledge, and performances developed by the Indiana Professional Standards Board pertaining to the areas of certification.
  28. Demonstrates continuous professional growth aligned to the district goals and strategies and accomplished through a program of collaboration, independent study, action research, benchmarking, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  29. Participates in and supports district reform initiatives.
  30. Contributes to the School Improvement and Accountability Plan.
  31. Completes required reports or electronic information/data entry in a timely manner (e.g., assessments, scores, report cards, grade sheets, textbook evaluations, work order, supply orders etc.).
  32. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  33. Completes other tasks as assigned by the principal.

  • This type of work involves sitting some of the time, but may involve walking or standing for moderate periods.
  • Persons performing service in this position must be punctual in attendance each day in order to carry out the supervisory aspects of the job.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
